1 Purpose
This document establishes governance requirements for Terminology Language and Translation Rules within the controlled Good Taste Awards standards system.
2 Scope
This document applies to the requirements, decisions, records, controls, and outputs expressly identified under Terminology Language and Translation Rules. Award scope and exclusions are controlled by GTA-STD-100; this document shall not create an additional award dimension. Operational prerequisites identified here affect assessment validity and never constitute product certification.
3 Authority and interpretation
The Standards Authority owns GTA-GOV-005; the Standards Authority approves it. Normative verbs, controlled terms, stable requirement identities, policy constants, and generated representations shall be interpreted under GTA-GOV-002, GTA-GOV-005, and the controlled registers.

4 Requirements
GTA-GOV-005-R001 — English authority
The Standards Authority shall make controlled English the sole source for interpretation, implementation, and dispute resolution.
GTA-GOV-005-R002 — Preferred terms
The Standards Authority shall use one registered expression and definition for every controlled concept.
GTA-GOV-005-R003 — Role names
The Standards Authority shall use only the eight controlled role titles when assigning internal authority.
GTA-GOV-005-R004 — Capitalization
The Standards Authority shall preserve the registered form of programme, role, star, mark, data, and interface names.
GTA-GOV-005-R005 — Definition quality
The Standards Authority shall state necessary and sufficient meaning without circularity or hidden requirements.
GTA-GOV-005-R006 — Accessibility language
The Standards Authority shall identify any non-authoritative language representation as an accessibility aid and verify semantic equivalence.
GTA-GOV-005-R007 — Conflict handling
The Standards Authority shall resolve ambiguous, duplicate, obsolete, or conflicting terms before dependent content is activated.
GTA-GOV-005-R008 — Change propagation
The Standards Authority shall review every clause, field, test, interface, and public expression that uses an amended term.
5 Linguistic precedence
Controlled A title, term, interface label, explanatory translation, or public summary in another language shall not modify, extend, narrow, or replace the controlled English source.
Where two English expressions appear to refer to the same controlled concept, the registered preferred term governs. Where a preferred term conflicts with a material requirement, the conflict shall be held for Standards Authority resolution; neither wording may be silently harmonized in an implementation.
6 Terminology control
| Term element | Required control |
|---|---|
| Term identity | immutable term identifier independent of display order |
| Preferred term | one authoritative English expression with controlled capitalization |
| Definition | necessary and sufficient meaning that does not contain an unregistered obligation |
| Concept boundary | distinction from adjacent or commonly confused concepts |
| Owner | controlled role accountable for semantic maintenance |
| References | requirements, fields, interfaces, and public statements using the concept |
| Alias | retrieval aid only; never a replacement in normative text |
| Change effect | dependent-content and compatibility analysis before activation |
New terminology shall be introduced only where an existing controlled term cannot express the concept without ambiguity. Abbreviations shall be expanded at first material use and shall not replace a controlled role title. A term change that alters an obligation, decision, state, field, or public meaning is semantic rather than editorial.
7 Non-authoritative language representations
A non-English representation may be provided only as an explicitly labelled access aid linked to the exact English version. It shall preserve document identity, heading hierarchy, requirement identifiers, normative-force markers, numbers, formulas, tables, defined terms, exclusions, and clause anchors. The English text shall remain immediately available from every translated clause.
Translation review shall record the source version, reviewer competence, terminology mapping, identified ambiguity, resolved discrepancy, and equivalence conclusion. If equivalence cannot be demonstrated, the representation shall be suppressed. Search may index an approved translation as a retrieval aid, but citation and conformity shall resolve to the authoritative English clause.
8 Conformity and records
Conformity with Terminology Language and Translation Rules requires evidence comprising the source evidence, controlled decision, accountable role, and independent or automated verification. The record for each applicable GTA-GOV-005 requirement shall permit reconstruction without relying on an unrecorded explanation.
Evidence created under GTA-GOV-005 shall use stable identifiers, immutable event sequence numbers, and machine event timestamps. A correction shall be append-only. A nonconformity shall place the affected object in a non-releasable state until its consequence and authorized disposition are recorded. Role combination remains subject to the mandatory separation rules.
